Our people and the things they believe in. The things individuals on their own inculcate into culture and tradition most times can be very funny. Individuals on their own create something from their imagination and tag it to practicing their culture and upholding value. I visited a friend of mine who gave birth to a baby, that morning that I came; the baby was being bathed by my friend’s neighbor. After she had cleaned the baby and applied cream, she asked my friend to bring her palm oil and grounded charcoal. I asked what those items were for, and she said we children of nowadays do not know culture and how to prevent some certain things. I waited to see wonders and culture. So when she brought those things, the woman collected the charcoal and mixed thoroughly with the palm oil and then applied it to baby’s armpit and held the baby’s arms still and refused to talk or respond to anybody until after about 5 minutes. It is still surprising that till this time, so many people have failed to understand the physiological functioning of the body system. How can people still carry out barbaric practices even on innocent children in the name of culture and tradition?   Things that did not go down well with our ancestors people of this age still carry them along as inheritance. Few days ago, a man and his wife rushed their two weeks old twin babies to the hospital a girl and a boy, on the account of being very sick and they do not know why.  Meanwhile, the boy had already died before they got to the hospital. None of the parents could give a proper history of what actually happened. Most of the birth defects and congenital abnormalities (children born with some abnormalities) seen in most children are caused by the mother’s carelessness during pregnancy. Women learn a lot from going to the hospital and registering for antenatal during pregnancy.   In the antenatal classes they attend, the health personnel teach them the dos and don’ts in pregnancy, things to eat and what not to eat, medications to take and the ones they are not supposed to take. It is sad to say that ignorance has eaten deep into our living environments to the extent of taking over some people’s lives, even when being dragged out of it by education, information and improved technology. They are being blind folded by the scarf of ignorance. The extent and the rate at which our people abuse and misuse drugs is quite pitiful, Imagine that a person is being treated with a particular class of antibiotics for a particular type of ailment, when he or she recovers, the person will try everything possible to know the name of that particular drug in order to prescribe it to another person who has similar signs of the disease he or she was treated of.   Even if that person’s illness is caused by virus. Another one is after the day to day activities, some people will buy antibiotics on their way home in order to take it at night before sleeping, and when you ask them what the drug is for, they will tell you it helps them a lot with strength. Childlessness has driven so many women into dangerous scams that could even take their lives. The worst of it all is that some of them actually know that their pregnancies are not real, while some do not even know. These ones that do not know are actually fooled and brain washed till the very end. The scam, is that when a childless woman goes to these people (the scammers), they will assure her of getting pregnant immediately with their miracle working drugs and herbs. Once she starts taking the mixtures, she starts getting some signs of pregnancies, and her belly will start getting bigger.  As time goes on, they will scan her with their own scan machine (only God knows the kind of CD plate the put inside to play for her to see) show her how the baby is kicking, then warn her that she should not go elsewhere to scan  because other scan machines will not show the growing baby. This is alarming, horrifying and disturbing to hear of all sorts of things used these days by some of our young girls in order to get rid of pregnancy. Even some are given by the parents of these young girls in order to save them the shame of being disgraced in the public.
